We have started the gradual migration of our worker nodes to the new, 32 bit compatible, SL5-64b system.
Last Jully a new batch platform (newLinux) has been set up. It was corresponding to 50 workers nodes installed with the SL5-64 architecture. Up-to-now 400 workers nodes have been added, it means that 3200 CPUs are available for this new batch platform. For PISTOO farm dedicated to parallel computing, we plan to set up 256 new CPUs for mid-November.
Of course, CEs (Computing Element - allowing all VOs), to make grid jobs reach this platform are available (see detailed specifications below).
Please note, that in parallel to the opening of this new platform, we introduce a more strict control of the access to storage resources during batch processing (mandatory declaration of storage resources).
Intended goals are to make a steady increase of the number of SL5-64 machines, taking into account the needs during. The SL5 platform will represent 80% of our processing power for the start-up of the LHC planned in mid-November.
The SL4-64 platform will be reduced progressively during the first semester of 2010 with the goal to discontinue this platform (except for any special cases) by the end of the first semester 2010.
