We have started the gradual migration of our worker nodes to the new, 32 bit compatible, SL5-64b system. This migration is done according to the following plan:
As of today, a new batch platform (newLinux) is made available. It corresponds to about 50 machines of the SL5-64 architechture as well as a multi-VO CE that allows grid jobs to reach the this platform (see detailed specifications below). In parallel to the opening of this new platform, we introduce a more strict control of the access to storage resources during batch processing (mandatory declaration of storage resources).
Intended goals (can be adjusted to react to any problems that might be encountered):
Steady increase of the number of SL5-64 machines, taking into account the needs during Summer and during September (using new machines),
The idea is to have the SL5 platform represent 50 % of our processing power before the start-up of the LHc. At that point, SL5 could become the default platform.
The SL4-64 platform will be reduced progressively during the first semester of 2010 with the goal to discontinue this platform (except for any special cases) by the end of the first semester 2010.
You are encouraged to migrate your software as quickly as possible, and to notify User Support,

of any problem that you might encounter.
Reminder of the names used in conjunction of the new platform:

Generic name for interactive login pool: ccalisl5
