Throughout the year, the CC-IN2P3 (CNRS) is committed to giving the general public a behind-the-scenes look at scientific computing and digital research. Through events open to all (European Heritage Days, school visits, conferences, educational workshops, etc.), the Computing Centre shares its expertise, missions and technologies.
\nA strategic location for French and international research, the CC-IN2P3 processes billions of pieces of data every day from experiments in particle physics and astrophysics. These events are opportunities to understand how cutting-edge computing supports major scientific discoveries.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of Journ\u00e9es Europ\u00e9ennes du Patrimoine, the ICC-IN2P3 (CNRS) invites you to take a behind-the-scenes look at one of the nerve centres of French scientific research.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd2c Did you know that thousands of researchers in particle physics, astrophysics and biology send their data through the CC-IN2P3? It is here, in Villeurbanne, that billions of pieces of information from around the world are stored, processed and analysed, including data from CERN experiments, the Vera Rubin telescope and many other scientific experiments.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udccc On the programme:<\/p>\n

\u2013 Guided tours of the Computing Centre and its computer rooms
\n\u2013 Meetings with scientists and engineers
\n\u2013 Demonstrations on scientific data and high-performance computing

On the occasion of Journ\u00e9es Europ\u00e9ennes du Patrimoine, the CC-IN2P3 (CNRS) opened its doors to the public on Saturday, 21 September 2024.
\nThe day was a resounding success, with more than 800 visitors coming to discover the centre behind the scenes and talk with the teams.
\nThanks to six activities, the public was able to dive into the heart of scientific computing, explore the challenges of data processing, and better understand the essential role of CC-IN2P3 in major research endeavours.<\/p>\n
