{"id":5717,"date":"2025-02-20T08:57:04","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T07:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cc.in2p3.fr\/?p=5717"},"modified":"2026-02-25T09:12:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:12:40","slug":"japan-france-workshop-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cc.in2p3.fr\/en\/japan-france-workshop-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan-France Workshop on Information Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 18 and 19 February, the CC-IN2P3 organised <a href=\"https:\/\/indico.in2p3.fr\/event\/35206\/\">the eighth edition<\/a> of a Japan-France Workshop, attended by three colleagues from the<strong> KEK Computing Research Center<\/strong>, located in Tsukuba, about an hour from Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Like the CC-IN2P3, the KEK Computing Research Centre provides computing resources for high-energy physics experiments. This meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the computing issues involved in these experiments, share ideas and potentially collaborate to find a common solution.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop began with an exchange of news from each of the two sites. More technical topics were then discussed, and areas for collaboration were identified.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists need to authenticate themselves in order to use a number of computing services. Identity federation services exist for this purpose. France, like most European countries, uses the <a href=\"https:\/\/edugain.org\/\">eduGAIN<\/a> identity federation, while Japan uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gakunin.jp\/en\">GakuNin<\/a>. An initial area of work would be to enable the interoperability of these two services, allowing users to authenticate in Japan using eduGAIN, and vice versa, thus enabling researchers from both countries to collaborate more easily.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a thematic session was dedicated to artificial intelligence and how these tools can aid research. Large Language Models (LLMs, or conversational agents) were presented and discussed.
