The CC-IN2P3 is going solar!
Installed on the roof of the CC-IN2P3 in summer 2024, 356 photovoltaic panels were successfully commissioned on 16 January 2025, as soon as the administrative authorisations were received. The 141 kWp [1] installation is expected to produce up to 160 MWh [2] per year. This modest electricity production nevertheless represents a reduction in the carbon footprint of nearly 20 TeqCO2 [3] per year. It will cover the electricity needs of the tertiary building housing the offices and meeting rooms.
Following the gradual replacement of lighting with LED systems over the past decade and the installation of a waste heat recovery system in the second computer room to heat a campus building, this new initiative is part of CC-IN2P3’s efforts to control electricity consumption and associated costs.
It is fully in line with the CNRS‘s commitments to energy transition and sustainable development.
