Inspiring tomorrow’s women in engineering and digital professions
On Thursday 19 November, the CC-IN2P3 opened its doors to around thirty secondary school girls as part of an initiative led by the Elles bougent association and organised by Cap Ingelec, a long-standing partner of the centre and builder of its extension. The goal? To raise awareness among young girls about careers in digital technology and engineering, sectors that are still too often perceived as male-dominated, and to show them that these fields are full of opportunities for everyone.
An immersion in the heart of technological innovation
During a morning full of discoveries, the secondary school students were able to explore behind the scenes of a data centre, a place usually reserved for experts.
The programme included a tour of the infrastructure, an explanation of the construction process, and a demonstration of how a data centre works. This immersive experience was designed to spark their curiosity and give them a concrete idea of what everyday life is like for professionals in the sector.
The girls were able to learn about the challenges of data management and energy efficiency, topics that are at the heart of today’s technological challenges.
As the builder of the Computer Centre extension, Cap Ingelec wanted to share its expertise and show the schoolgirls the different facets of engineering professions. Discussions with female engineers and technicians also helped to break down stereotypes and show that women have a place in these exciting professions.
The CC-IN2P3 is a major player in particle physics and scientific computing research. By welcoming these young girls, it reaffirms its commitment to diversity and inclusion in science and technology.
