13 October 2025Success for Journée du Patrimoine at the CC-IN2P3: visitor numbers up by more than 30%
On Saturday 20 September, the CC-IN2P3 opened its doors to the public for Journées Européennes du Patrimoine, offering a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at this facility, which is usually reserved for scientific computing experts. The event was a resounding success, with attendance up by more than 30% compared to the previous edition.
Throughout the day, visitors – whether curious, science enthusiasts or simply passers-by – were able to explore the Centre’s facilities, talk to the technical teams and discover the strategic role of this site in the massive processing of scientific data.
Guided tours, led by engineers from the CC-IN2P3, provided a better understanding of the issues involved in high-performance computing, scientific data management and the technological challenges associated with research.
This high turnout reflects the growing interest of the general public in scientific infrastructure and the CC-IN2P3’s commitment to openness and knowledge sharing.
A rich and varied programme, structured around six areas of activity
This year, visitors were able to follow a tour around six themed areas, each led by experts from the CC-IN2P3 and accompanied by conferences and practical workshops.
Visitors first discovered the technical infrastructure during guided tours of the computer rooms. The computer museum traced the history of the technologies used at the CC-IN2P3 since its inception, while a scientific exhibition explained how computing and data support major advances in research. Thematic conferences, led by experts, explored the history of AI and computer networks. A discovery area, with fun workshops and activities, attracted young and old alike to the basics of computing, and finally, multimedia content and live broadcasting extended the experience beyond the walls.
